Today we set up shop at Camelia Grove Hotel in Alexandria, NSW, from 12pm to 3pm, and honestly, it was a good time. Free event, no catch, just us, a table full of samples, and a very steady stream of dogs who had absolutely no idea they were about to become part of our market research.
The Vibe
Three hours. One inner-city beer garden. An amount of good dogs that we have decided not to count because the number would only make us more attached to a city full of strangers' pets.
We met dogs of every size, temperament, and opinion on being approached by strangers holding toothpaste. Some were immediately best friends. Some gave us a slow blink and walked on. All of them were, obviously, perfect.
What We Actually Did
Between saying hello to every dog within a 10 metre radius, we talked to a lot of humans too, about dog dental health, about why it matters more than most people realise, and about what Arca Lab actually does about it. We handed out samples of our Watermelon Burst Enzymatic Toothpaste to anyone keen to try it at home, no purchase required, no pressure, just a "here, see what your dog thinks."
That's really the whole point of these pop-ups. Instagram is great, but there's nothing like watching someone's dog actually try the toothpaste in real time to know if it's landing.
Q&A: What People Actually Asked Us
We got some version of these questions on repeat, so here they are, answered properly.
Do dogs really need their teeth brushed? Yes. Dental disease is one of the most common health issues in dogs, and most owners don't find out until it's already a problem. Regular brushing helps prevent tartar buildup, gum disease, and the bad breath that everyone jokes about but nobody actually enjoys.
Is the toothpaste safe if my dog just eats it instead of letting me brush? Yes. It's made to be dog-safe and palatable on purpose, so if your dog treats brushing time as a snack rather than a chore, that's fine. Ideally you're brushing, but even just getting the product into their mouth is a win over doing nothing.
How often should I actually be doing this? Daily is ideal, a few times a week is realistic and still genuinely helpful. Consistency matters more than perfection here.
My dog hates having their mouth touched. Any tips? Go slow. Start with just touching their muzzle and rewarding them, then work up to lips, then teeth, over days or weeks if needed. The flavour helps a lot with buy-in, which is exactly why we brought the watermelon one today.
Where can I buy it if I liked the sample? Everything's on arcalab.com.au, and if you picked up a sample today, we'd genuinely love to hear how your dog got on with it.
See You at the Next One
Thanks to everyone who stopped by, chatted, and let us fuss over their dogs for way longer than was probably necessary. If you missed this one, we'll be popping up again soon, keep an eye on our socials for the next location.
