5 Things Every Dog Parent Should Know About Dental Health

1. Around 80% of dogs over the age of 3 have some form of dental disease. Dental disease is one of the most common health problems in dogs, yet it's often overlooked.

2. Dogs can develop plaque within hours after eating. Bacteria can begin forming a sticky film on the teeth surprisingly quickly.

3. Plaque can harden into tartar. Once plaque mineralises, it becomes tartar (calculus), which is much harder to remove with ordinary brushing.

4. You don't need to brush for five minutes.
Consistency matters more than marathon brushing sessions. Even a short, regular brushing routine can be useful.

5. Dental care should start young. Puppies can be introduced to having their mouths handled and teeth brushed before they develop their adult teeth. This helps make dental care a normal part of life.
